The Government of Viet Nam will always treasure and efficiently manage the official development assistance (ODA) provided by the international community as it has significantly contributed to the country's socio-economic development over the past two decades.

Prime Minister Nguyen Tan Dung made the affirmation at a ceremony in Ha Noi on October 17 to mark the 20th anniversary of cooperation between Viet Nam and international donors.

He stressed that during the past 20 years, the donors' Governments, international organizations, financial institutions, and foreign non-governmental organizations have come up with a great financial resource and technical support to help Viet Nam realize successfully the national renewal and development goals.

While showing a heartfelt gratitude to the donors, he said the support came not only as a source of capital when Viet Nam was struggling against poverty and seeking technical and policy consultations for its economic improvement, but also as a manifestation of friendship, humanity and mutual emphathy.

PM Dung highlighted the sound outcomes of ODA utilization in policy system improvement, institutional capacity enhancement, administrative reform, economic restructure, international integration, human resources development, technological transfer and experience sharing.

He, however, also mentioned shortcomings related to ODA use and management and suggested measures to further the cooperation with the donors in the new period.

In addition, the PM reaffirmed the Government’s commitment to managing effectively the international community’s ODA.

He expressed his hope that the cooperation with ODA providers would continue to develop fruitfully to help Vietnam consolidate current achievements and ensure its sustainable development and prosperity./.
