Lai Chau Hydropower Plant may see completion ahead of schedule

The Lai Chau Hydropower Plant could be completed in 2016, one year earlier than originally planned, given the current progress of construction.
This announcement was made at a meeting on March 22 between Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai and the management board of the Son La and Lai Chau hydropower projects.
The first turbine of the Lai Chau plant is expected to generate electricity by 2015, while the remaining two will become operational in 2016, said Nguyen Hong Ha, head of the project management board.
Construction of the 1,200-megawatt Lai Chau Hydropower Plant began in 2011 at a total estimated cost of VND35.7 trillion (US$1.7 billion).
Deputy PM Hai said that in order to complete the Lai Chau project ahead of schedule, the management board should work closely with other relevant agencies to address major issues relating to investment capital and relocation of residents./.
