On January 24, 2019, at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong had a meeting with Ms. Kulaya Tantitemit, World Bank Group Executive Director representing for the South East Asia Group.
At the meeting, on behalf of the SBV Board of Management, Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong welcomed Ms. Kulaya Tantitemit for her first working visit to the SBV, and congratulated her on her new position. She also wished Ms. Kulaya Tantitemit a successful working visit and tenure.
In addition, the SBV Deputy Governor also congratulated the World Bank on the most successful capitalization in the WB’s history, mobilizing an additional US$13 billion to supplement its operating capital; thereby having more resources to support the dealing with the global issues (climate change, crisis resolution,...). In the context of still limited budget while very large demand for investment, the Government of Vietnam has made great efforts and is strongly committed to allocating a part of the national budget to contribute to the above capitalization plan, demonstrating the responsibility and obligations of the Government of Vietnam in relation with the WB.
For her part, Ms. Kulaya Tantitemit exchanged and updated on the activities of the WB, the WB’s recent reforms, its operational policies in the relationship with Vietnam in the coming time in the context of Vietnam’s graduation from IDA, and measures to further strengthen the cooperative relations between Vietnam and the WB. In particular, she also informed the SBV about Mr. Jim Yong Kim's resignation from the WB on February 1, 2019 and the results of the selection of a new President will be announced at the Spring Conference in April 2019.
Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong thanked Ms.Kulaya Tantitemit for her assessments on the world and Vietnam's economic situations in the past and prospects in the coming time. As a representative of the Government in the World Bank, the SBV highly appreciated the WB’s cooperation in Vietnam’s socio-economic development strategy in general and in the finance and banking sector in particular. The SBV Board of Management also has high evaluation for Mr. Jim Yong Kim's great contributions and support extended to Vietnam in general and the SBV in particular over the past 6 years as the WB President.
Ms.Kulaya Tantitemit thanked Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong for her hospitality, and emphasized that the WB would continue to cooperate and support Vietnam in the process of successfully implementing the national targets./.
