The VND23.5 trillion (US$1.2 billion) plant, built by the Electricity of Vietnam Group (EVN), comprises two turbines, each with a capacity of 622MW.
Once fully operational, the plant will generate 7.2 billion KWh per year, contributing to ensuring the power supply for the whole country, as well as boosting the province’s socio-economic development.
According to EVN, the plant’s second turbine is expected to join the national grid by mid-2014.
Meanwhile, Vinh Tan Port is under construction to create a stable coal supply for four thermal power plants in Vinh Tan centre, which boast a combined capacity of 5,600MW.
Vinh Tan 2 and Duyen Hai 1 thermo-electric plants have a combined capacity of 2,400 MW with total investment capital up to VND 52.7 trillion. Those two projects as part of a national master plan to develop power sources up until 2015 are expected to contribute further to the electricity system of the southern region and the country.
Total current commitments of VDB to EVN for those two projects are VND 7.5 trillion (state investment credit), so far./.
