WB project brings clean water to people in Ha Nam

More than 10,000 households in the northern province of Ha Nam will gain access to clean water in 2014 through a five-year project funded by the World Bank (WB), which is being implemented in eight Red River Delta provinces.

A delegation from the bank on April 14 had a working session with the provincial People’s Committee to review the project’s progress in the Ha Nam and share experience of other localities.

Launched in 2013, the project aims to improve sustainable access to and the efficiency of water supply and sanitation services in rural areas of Phu Tho, Vinh Phuc, Bac Ninh, Hung Yen, Quang Ninh, Hanoi, Ha Nam and Thanh Hoa.

The WB funded 200 million USD to the project, which has a total budget of 230.5 million USD.

So far, Ha Nam has built six out of the 10 planned water supply facilities, bringing water to 11 out of the 30 target communes.

On the occasion, Ha Nam province’s authorities asked for more financial assistance to local poor and near-poor households, social beneficiaries.
