The ceremony was attended by members of the Politburo, as well as National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong and Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy PM Hoang Trung Hai congratulated the Son La Hydropower Company on the award and on its achievements over the past.
The company has made significant contributions to the construction of the Son La Hydroelectric Plant, the largest project in Southeast Asia, facilitating the project’s completion two years ahead of schedule, he noted.
The Deputy PM asked the company to continue to exert more effort to ensure management and safety during the operation of the plant, as well as in preparation for production at the Lai Chau hydropower plant.
With a total investment of VND60 trillion (approximately US$2.85 billion), the Son La Hydropower Plant has a designed capacity of 2,400 MW and six generators. The project has been completed much earlier than scheduled bringing huge economic benefits.
It will create an annual turnover of US$500 million and save over five million tonnes of coal previously needed to produce the equivalent amount of electricity. Furthermore, the plant will supply on average 10.2 billion kWh/year to the national grid.
