The rotor complex weighs 1,000 tonnes and measures 15.587 metres in diameter and 2.816 metres in height.
The successful installation – after over 3.5 months of implementation – marks an important step towards the goal of putting turbine no. 2 into operation by June 2016, ensuring the plant is completed by the end of this year, one year ahead of schedule.
Earlier on October 14, 2015, contractors successfully installed the rotor of the first turbine at the Lai Chau hydroelectric plant. The turbine is currently being operated in both safe and stable conditions for commercial power generation after a 40-day trial run.
Construction of turbine no. 3 is currently underway, with over 45% of workload completed.
The Lai Chau plant, located in the upper reach of the Da River, has three turbines with a total capacity of 1,200MW, which will supply more than 4.6 billion kWh of electricity to the national power grid when all of them become operational.
