Attending the ceremony were Mr. Le Van Nam, Deputy General Director of VDB and concurrently Director of Transaction Office I; Mr. Nguyen Ngoc Tan, Deputy General Director of EVNNPT; representatives from VDB’s Departments; and leaders from EVNNPT and the Northern Power Projects Management Board (NPTPMB).
Classified as a Level-I energy facility, Category B, the 220 kV Than Uyên – 500 kV Lao Cai Transmission Line Project is invested by EVNNPT and directly managed by NPTPMB on behalf of the investor. The project is being implemented across two provinces — Lai Chau and Lao Cai.
The main components of the project include the construction of a 220 kV double-circuit transmission line with a total length of 73.25 km, starting from the 220 kV Than Uyen Substation and ending at the 220 kV busbar of the 500 kV Lao Cai Substation. The transmission line runs approximately 5.7 km through Lai Chau province and 67.5 km through Lao Cai province.
Upon completion, the project will meet the demand for transmitting surplus capacity resulting from the growth of hydropower generation in Lai Chau province; strengthen interconnections between regional power systems, enhance the safety and stability of the national power grid, reduce transmission losses, and improve the operational efficiency of Vietnam Electricity (EVN).
This is the second project agreement signed in 2025 between EVNNPT and the VDB – Transaction Office I, reaffirming the long-term and increasingly strong cooperation between the two parties./.
