Ms. Rena Bitter , the U.S. Consul General to Ho Chi Minh City, Mr. Patrick Wall , Commercial Counselor of the U.S. Embassy to Vietnam, Mr. Pham Hoang Be , Party Deputy Secretary cum Chairman of Bac Lieu province and representatives from Ministries, industries and agencies, Mr. Nguyen Quang Dung , Acting Chairman of VDB Board of Management , Mr. Tran Ba Huan , VDB General Director, Ms. Dao Dung Anh, VDB Deputy General Director, key personnel of departments in VDB’s head quarter, VDB’s Operation Center II, VDB’s Representative Office in Ho Chi Minh city and Cong Ly leaders were present at the signing ceremony.
The Bac Lieu wind farm project, located in Bac Lieu province and owned by Cong Ly Company, get State’s investment credit and foreign loan through VDB. Started in September 2010, this project is the first of this kind in the Mekong Delta which is built on the continental shelf.
Previously, on October 18th, 2011, the United States’ Export-Import Bank (U.S. Exim bank) signed an agreement to provide VDB with an USD 1 billion credit line to finance wind farm development program in the Mekong Delta region.
The 1st phase of the Bac Lieu project has been completed with 10 turbines installed with a total capacity of 16MW. It has been into operation and connected to the national power grid, meeting the energy needs of the country, contributing to the economic and tourism development in the area.
For the second phase of the project, VDB and Cong Ly Company signed a loan agreement with an commitment up to VND 4.070 billion, of which VND 2,070 billion is from State credit, with a term of 12 years.
In the 2nd phase, an additional 52 turbines with a combined capacity of 83.2 MW will be installed. They are expected to raise total capacity of the Project up to 99MW, adding another 320 million MW to the national grid each year . /.
