On April 19th, 2019 at the headquarters of the State Bank of Vietnam (SBV), Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong had a meeting with Mr. Tan Keng Heng - Alternate Executive Director of the Southeast Asia Group Office of the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
At the meeting, Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong welcomed Mr. Tan Keng Heng and the IMF Mision to visit and work with the SBV. On behalf of the SBV's Board of Management, the Deputy Governor expressed high evaluation for the activities of the Group Office, as well as Mr. Tan Keng Heng's contributions over the past time to maintain the effectiveness of the communication and exchange of information between the IMF and the member countries. The IMF’s initiatives and agendas have been promptly informed to the member countries, including Vietnam, through various channels, thereby each country can participate actively in the Fund's activities as well as promoting IMF cooperation with the countries.
At the recent Spring Conference, the Southeast Asia Group Office delivered a report on the Office’s activities over the past year. The SBV has very high assessment for the Office’s performance and believes that with the new Executive Director, the Group Office will continue to successfully implement and accomplish the 2017 - 2019 action program as approved by the Governors, which is the basis for developing the Action Plan for the next period to enhance the performance of the Group Office, as well as to enhance the voice and the role of the Southeast Asia Group in the IMF.
It is known that the IMF is currently discussing about the capital sources, as well as the share structure and voting rights of the member countries, and thus Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong proposed that the Group Office, during this process, should comment on the Fund's necessary reforms in order to reflect the roles of the emerging economies like Vietnam.
Mr. Tan Keng Heng thanked SBV Deputy Governor Nguyen Thi Hong for taking the time to welcome the Mission. Mr. Tan Keng Heng also expressed his impression and made positive judgments and assessments about the economic situation of Vietnam in the past time. At the same time, the Alternate Executive Director emphasized that the Southeast Asia Group Office in particular and the IMF in general will continue to accompany Vietnam, actively cooperating with and supporting Vietnam to successfully implement its national development goals./.
