As part of the Viet Nam Financial Sector Development Program to help the Vietnamese financial sector’s transformation toward ESG, the WB mission had a visit to Vietnam. The objective of the mission is to explore targeted interventions to support the State Bank of Vietnam and the local economy in achieving the deliverables of the Action Plan of the Banking Industry to Implement the National Strategy on Green Growth (2021-2030), which focusing on several key areas, including: 1. Leveraging policy-banks’ de-risking potential to engage the banking sector; 2. Possible setup of a Green Finance Country Platform; 3. Possible setup of Green Credit Guarantee Mechanism/Risk Sharing Facility.
At the meeting, General Director Dao Quang Truong expressed his pleasure in welcoming the WB mission and provided a brief overview of the activities and direction of VDB in the green finance sector.
Throughout the meeting, the WB mission and VDB discussed and shared experiences regarding the difficulties and challenges encountered in the process of "greening" the banking system and promoting green credit. These challenges include improving the risk management system, enhancing the environmental and social policy framework, and accessing preferential capital sources for the "green" sector.
Based on the discussions, both parties agreed to continue coordinating efforts to explore potential cooperation opportunities in the future. This includes activities such as technical assistance, mobilization of "green" concessional capital, and feasibility studies for issuing green bonds./.
