The Lao Cai diammonium phosphate (DAP) plant of the Vietnam National Chemical Group (Vinachem) was inaugurated at a ceremony held at Tang Loong Industrial Zone, Bao Thang district, Lao Cai province on November 7.

Addressing the ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Hoang Trung Hai valued the project’s significance in ensuring food security and being a stimulus industrial facility in the region, addressing difficulties in fertilizer supply in the northern region where transport costs are high and supply sources are limited.

He asked the investor and the plant’s staff to manage and operate the plant effectively to ensure the quality of products, as well as pay attention to marketing work to promote the project’s efficiency.

He also asked them to care for environmental and emissions matters to minimize impacts and practice drills to cope with chemical problems and get ready to ensure safety for the plant and the environment.

After 23 months of construction, the plant with advanced technologies from the US and Europe now can produce over 100,000 tonnes of DAP, aiming towards 200,000 tonnes this year and 280,000 tonnes next year. Annually, the plant creates over 700 jobs and contributes over VND300 billion (US$13.5 million) to the local budget.

The DAP Lao Cai plant has total investment of about VND 5 trillion (225 million USD), of which VDB’s financing is VND 1.810 trillion.
