Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, Deputy Prime Minister Trinh Dinh Dung have attended the conference along with leaders of ministries, central government organizations and agencies, leaders of Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau provinces. Representing Vietnam Development Bank, there were Mr. Pham Quang Tung – VDB, Mr. Nguyen Chi Trang - Deputy General Director and directors of VDB’s branches in Dien Bien, Son La and Lai Chau.
Resident migration and resettlement of Son La Hydropower plant is a multi-purpose and large scale project by which about 20.340 households with 93.201 residents from 248 villages and population groups, 31 communes, 8 districts and towns in Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau area had to be relocated and resettled.
After 15 years, the project now has in principle completed. Thanks to this project, Son La hydropower plant construction has been finished three years ahead the schedule, supplying more power to the national grid and contributing to the socio-economic development of the Northwestern region, especially for three provinces of Dien Bien, Son La, Lai Chau. The per capita income of relocated people increased by 3.92 times while the household poverty ratio decreased by 2.56 times.
Addressing the ceremony, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his gratitude to the officials and the residents who have made certain contributions to the project and praised their achievements. His Excellency also pointed out limitations and shortcomings. He asked the ministries, agencies and localities administration to pay more attention to resettled resident’s life, and to develop new-style rural areas, centers for agricultural and industrial encouragement, ensuring sustainable poverty reduction in resettlement areas.
On this occasion, the Prime Minister and State President have awarded 58 outstanding collectives and individuals with noble medals and merits by including VDB’s Director of Dien Bien branch with Labor Medal, third class and VDB’s branch in Dien Bien Prime Minister’s Certificate of Merit./.
