
Vietnam Development Bank (VDB) had initially funded the two hydropower projects with a sum of VND 3.466 billion for procurement of hydro-mechanical equipment manufactured in Vietnam and resettlement compensation; as of May 31st, 2014, VDB has disbursed VND 3.136 billion.
Ban Chat hydropower Plant, which started in 2005, has a designed capacity of 220 MW with total investment of VND 11. 167 billion. It has been completed and officially contributed its parts in the national power grid since the end of 2012. On the other hand, the Huoi Quang hydropower Plant was started in 2005 with a designed capacity of 520 MW and a total investment of VND 11.773 billion. This later one will be operational in 2016.
Once being completed, the two projects will have a total production of 3,1billion kWh/year for national power grid, bringing enormous benefits by regulating water resource and protecting more efficiently local people at the flood season every year./.
